BALLET
We use both the Russian Vaganova and Cecchetti methods of ballet. Students are placed into the appropriate level, and they are promoted on an individual basis as the instructor feels they are ready to move forward. Students may remain in a particular level for 2 or more years due to the length of each syllabi. Two classes per week are encouraged for ballet students Level II and higher.
Students begin pre-pointe in level III at the recommendation of the teacher. Level IV requirements are two ballet technique classes and one pointe class per week. Level V requirements are two pointe classes and two ballet technique classes per week. Level VI requirements are two pointe classes and three ballet technique classes per week. Students will perform in the recital with a pointe class routine only. Technique classes are non- recital.
In addition to our studio Spring Performance at Willett Hall, ballet students level 3 /4 and higher have an opportunity to audition for one or more "Masterworks" ballet productions. The cast is usually chosen from levels 5 and 6,and occasionally levels 3/ 4 or 4 depending on what is required to produce the ballet.
LYRICAL
Lyrical dance is a classical ballet based dance style. It is a free moving dance with movements interpretive of lyrics, but still requires proper ballet training in order to execute it properly. At Academie all lyrical students must be enrolled in a technique class. Your level in lyrical will be the same level you are placed in ballet.
